Leaving behind a school can feel weird, especially one you’ve made so many memories in. Middle school is a challenging time, but many benefits come out of it. To awaken some of these experiences, Kaylee Miller, a senior at Yukon High School (and former student at Yukon Middle School), was interviewed. Kaylee gave great answers and insight on the subject.
When thinking about YMS, Kaylee remembers a great school in which she experienced many good times and made tons of friends. She also believes that she discovered who she is today and grew a lot as a person throughout her time here at YMS. The middle school gave Kaylee some leadership qualities that she finds helpful today.
If she was able to inform her younger self about middle school, she would say, “have fun and enjoy every moment, as it goes by fast and high school is soon approaching.” Kaylee stated that as a middle school student, she was quiet, more confident than ever before, and humble.
Some of Kaylee’s favorite things about school were the pep assemblies and time in the gym in the morning before class at YMS. Selby with Everyday Speech explains that “Middle school is a critical time for students to develop a positive sense of self and build the necessary skills to navigate the challenges they may face.” Kaylee’s gain of confidence, sense of self, and work ethic are what she believes prepared her for high school and some of life’s challenges she faces today. She was motivated by her three older brothers and her mother during middle school.
One thing that bothered Kaylee in middle school was the bias and unfairness about …, and she hopes it will change for students now.
This testing time was a challenge for Kaylee, but she made the most of it and is on her way to graduating from YHS. It can be a great experience if you allow it to be, as Kaylee did.
