You may have heard of your friends and teachers talk about counselors and you may think to yourself “what is that?” Well, counseling is a process where an individual, couple or family meets with a trained professional counselor to talk about issues and problems that they are facing in their lives. Is counseling the same as therapy? Well yes and no, therapists and counselors are both professionals that give support, guidance and treatment to people who are emotionally, mentally, and behaviorally struggling in their lives or they simply just want to talk to someone. However, our counselors are more focused on one specific issue and have short term treatment plans to help you succeed. Counseling can help with communication, anxiety/stress reduction, depression, building confidence and a lot of other things.
Right now, if you click here, we have support groups available for those struggling with issues big and small. One of our counselors here, Mrs. McKeown expressed that “there are many benefits to attending a support group including feeling less lonely, working on coping skills, gaining a sense of empowerment, learning from others, and knowing they are not the only ones dealing with similar issues.” It’s always nice to talk to someone and get your thoughts out without judgement, so If you’re ever interested in counseling services here at YMS, you can reach out to any teacher here to get in touch with them, they are here to help!
