Have you ever wondered how we could improve our football teams? Well, YMS journalists are committed to finding out reasons why. After talking to both coaches and players, we might have some answers. Coach Porter who has experience playing and has been coaching football now for 7 years says, “we lack confidence in knowing we can win.” Porter also spoke to the fact that their in need of more team leaders. In his opinion, a team leader has a positive attitude, holds themselves accountable, and steps up to the plate. Next, we heard from Coach Tschetter, who has been a part of football for 18 yrs says, “after even being down by little we start to get unmotivated, which does not allow them to play well all game.” While this was good information, we were determined to get more. So we decided to get perspective from some players. First we spoke with 8th grader, Braylen Gigliardy, who said “we can improve by not being in our heads.” Someone who’s seem to get over this obstacle is 8th grader, Connor Asher, “my biggest accomplishment this season was gaining progress on my depth chart.” A depth chart ranks by positioning and possible playing time, so this is a task all players can work towards to obtain not only personal success, but bettering the team overall. The 7th grade team had their input as well. “We can improve by not goofing off and learning our plays better,” said Ray Murray. Vince Wanda who says “our biggest struggle this season yet has been getting tired, going back and forth between offense and defense.” Finally, we spoke with Koda Fish, he expressed that the school could improve the game day experience, by getting our community together to root the players on. In conclusion, Our biggest struggles are mainly mental blocks, but we have had several individual accomplishments and are working toward subtle improvements as we move towards playoffs. Support is always necessary when it comes to sports, so let’s give them all the support we can. Let them know we believe in them and as always Go Millers!
