Do you or a friend or a family member know someone who is from Native American Heritage, if so you should wish them a happy native american heritage month. If you’re curious it’s in the month of November, and it has been since 1990. But let’s go back to the beginning. The native americans have lived here in America for 23,000 to 30,000 years, even after they lived here in America for that long, the Europeans started flooding in more and more. Which caused the United States and Canadian government to start making policies which would force Natives onto reservations and encourage them to assimilate into the majority culture. But besides its ups and downs the month is used to celebrate the traditions, languages and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiians. And other island communities which will ensure their rich histories and heavy contributions help continue to thrive with each new generation. In 1990 the President at the time George H. W. Bush approved the joint resolution that designated the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month, proclamations that were similar variants that went under similar names (including “Native American Heritage Month” and “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month”).
